Every seventh man has symptoms of cataract
Every seventh man, who is 40 years old or more, has symptoms of cataract.
Highest risk groups include asthmatics on steroid medications, those who suffer from severe myopia, have histories of violence or have suffered trauma to the eye
Often people in their 40′s and 50′s blurred vision, difficulty seeing at night and faded colors attributed to age, and are not even aware that it can be the first signs of cataracts, they found British doctors. It is amazing that these symptoms has every seventh man in those years, and everybody thinks is best corrected glasses for reading, the Daily Mail. Glasses with higher diopter does not solve the problem, but the only way to surgery under local anesthesia that lasts 40 minutes.
- Twenty years ago there were few cases of someone younger than 60 years has cataracts. If they had, it was because of health problems such as diabetes or suffered a trauma. But in the last eight months I was visited four healthy patients in their 40′s who for years had cataracts – said ophthalmologic surgeon Shafiq Rehman.
Although cataracts characteristic of older people, new figures show that since it affects one percent of the population between 45 and 55 years. Highest risk groups include asthmatics on steroid medications, those who suffer from severe myopia, have histories of violence or have suffered trauma to the eye. Heavy drinking and smoking also increases risk. Although UV exposure is often cited as a cause of cataracts, there is no solid evidence for it.
- Britain has same rate of patients with cataracts as Australia, which is much sunnier, which is hard evidence that there is no connection between exposure to UV radiation and cataracts – said Rehman.
